1890	Winyah House was a tuberculosis sanitarium, founded by Dr. Karl Von Ruck in 1888. Prevailing medical theory in the 1890's was that the dry, clean mountaiin air was the best environment for those with tuberculosis. Sleeping porches prescribed!
1896-1897
1899-1900	CPA no longer with the Winyah Sanitarium. Ramoth was an incorporated town at the northern border of Asheville. Ramoth is now a short street off of Merrimon, near the Grove Park Inn
1900-1901	Harriet makes her first listing - but they married in 1893.
1902-1903	CPA and Harriet now living in Woolsey - new name for the Ramoth area in 1903.
1904-1905	"Medical Building" probably at 18 Battery Park - see 1906-07
1906-1907	Start of listing of children - Mary, born 1893, age 13 +/-. Children listings inconsistant in various years.
1907-1908	412 Merrimon Avenue [close to Coleman: Woolsey renamed?]

1909	First listing for son Arthur - student , born 1895, now age 14 +/-.
1910	First listing for Dorothy, born 1899, age 11 +/-.
1911	Last listing of offices in "Medical Building"
1912	First listing for the "Ambler Building" - 72 N Main; in 1916 this becomes 72 Broadway
1913	Note the telephone listings. [The Masonic Temple, with which CPA is very involved, is constructed in 1913 at 80 Main/Broadway]

1916	Jos [Joseph] & Jos P are not part of our family - they are among those listed as "Embler" in 1921
1917	Son John, student, first listing - age 16, born 1901 Daughter Mary not listed: she marries Walter Carpenter in November 1915.
1918	See also the full page Meriwether Hospital and Training School ad in the 1918 Directory which lists CPA as a Vice-President and Director
1919	Harriet, wife of CPA dies in 1918. "721 Broadway"? Probably should still be 72 Broadway
1920	Jos, Lucy and Oscar Embler mislisted here again.

1922	City Directory not available
1923	First listing for Ambler Heights Sanitarium - and a full page ad. All the family now listed as residing at 72 Broadway - the Ambler Building. Arthur reappears, now a doctor. Barbara's first listing - age 20. Daughters Dorothy and Barbara listed as stenographers (secretaries) for the Ambler Heights Sanitarium. And a listing for the partnership of Drs Arthur & Chase
1924	Mrs. Daisy D. Chalmers [RN] - first listing as Superintendent. As shown in the 1920 census, she had been employed by the Meriwether Sanitarium. She marries widower CPA in 1926.

1925	Mary, wife of Arthur, listed for the first time, living in Albemarle Park. Distance Ambler Heights to Biltmore changes from 1.5 miles to 2.5 miles.
1926	Arthur & wife Mary now living on Vanderbilt Road
1927	Mrs Daisy D. Chalmers last listing as Superintendent at Ambler Heights Joseph (Jos) again listed as "Ambler" Thomas (Thos) & Myrtle's only listing - not kin
1928	Daisy D. now listed as wife of CPA - married

1929	CPA & Daisy move from 72 Broadway to Hilltop Road, Biltmore Forest Barbara now swiming director, YMCA, living with CPA & Daisy
1930	First listing for John as a physician - but not listed with Ambler Heights Sanitrium. Dorothy not listed - (married Oct 25, 1929) House numbers: 27 Hilltop Road & 373 Vanderbilt Road
1931	John no longer listed - (has gone to Cleveland for his internship) Arthur & Mary listed residing at 211 Charlotte
1932	CPA dies 5 June 1932. Daisy, still at 27 Hilltop Road, now listed as widow. Barbara, still living at home, now with the Boy Scouts. Arthur & Mary now residing at 412 Merrimon - an early address for CPA.

1935	Daisy, nurse, now renting at 50 Orange. Except for this one listing she is identified as widow of CPA in all city directories until her death in 1966. Barbara now secretary to A. W. Allen living at 170 Cumberland Ave. Arthur now listed as President of Ambler Heights Sanitarium New address for Ambler Heights on Swannanoa Drive
1936	Ambler Heights, Swannanoa Drive, with an Asheville office address also Barbara and Daisy both living at 111 Cumberland Ave, which is where Daisy does business as a nurse. Barbara back with Boy Scouts
1937	Arthur and wife Mary now living at 85 Edgemont Road. Barbara, having married Walter Thorne in 1936, is no longer listed. Daisy operating the "Nurses Central Directory," later called the "Nurses Registry."- and shown as vice-president of Ambler Heights. Ina A. Ambler - not kin.
1938	Walter B. Carpenter added as Secretary of Ambler Heights Sanitarium (check for a local home address listing). (Walter (1891-1961) is the husband of CPA's eldest daughter, Mary) Robert Ambler, husband of Ina, now listed; not kin.

1939	Daisy now listed as living at 144 Cumberland Ave, where she remians thru 1966.

1941	Last listing of Ambler Heights Sanitarium Was in operation 1922-1941 - 20 years

1943
1944	Arthur's office has a new address Judy (Julia) Ambler appears in ACA household. Robert and Ina no longer listed.
